For Cory Redwine, conservation is personal. Her passion for Florida’s waterways began with her first saltwater catch—a scrappy sheepshead caught while out with her now-husband, Derek Redwine. Over the years, this humble fish has come to represent not only their shared connection to the water but also the journey they’ve traveled together: from days when life was tough and sheepshead were a reliable meal to raising a family and dedicating their careers to protecting these same waters.
Today, as Conservation Director for Project SeaSafe, Cory leads initiatives aimed at improving and preserving marine ecosystems. But her work has always been a team effort. Derek, a marine artist, has been by her side, using his art to support her mission and others who work tirelessly for conservation. His latest painting, “Dock Star,” a sheepshead created for CCA Florida’s upcoming event, holds a unique significance for both of them. “It’s special to be married to an artist who’s as committed to protecting the environment as I am,” Cory says. “Derek channels that commitment into his art, creating pieces that inspire others to appreciate and care for our waters.”
For Cory, Derek’s art is more than a representation of Florida’s marine life; it’s a way to spread awareness and foster a deeper respect for the environment. His work, like “Dock Star,” doesn’t just capture the natural beauty of fish but also symbolizes the collective effort to restore and protect our waterways.
On Team Do Gooder, Cory shares stories of people like Derek, who use their unique skills to make a difference. Together, they are committed to ensuring that future generations can enjoy the waters and marine life that mean so much to them.
